POLYMER DYNAMICS, RHEOLOGY AND FLOW
Part I: Dilute Polymer Solutions, Linear Viscoelasticity
2pm Wed Sept 24, SUPA VC Rooms
I will give a quick tutorial on polymer solution dynamics. I will cover polymer coarse-graining principles, leading up to the Rouse and Zimm bead-spring theories for polymer relaxation in the linear viscoelastic regime, including the effects of hydrodynamic interactions. Formulation of theory in terms of both Fokker-Planck and Langevin equations will be presented. I will then discuss the limits of course-graining and how fine-grain effects such as bending and torsion dynamics of polymer chains affect the dynamics, including a few words about transitions to glassy dynamics in polymer melts.
