POLYMER DYNAMICS, RHEOLOGY AND FLOW

Part IV: Entangled Polymer Dynamics
2pm, Thurs Oct 2

I start with a brief presentation of the "tube" model for motion of entangled linear and branched polymers, and the "standard model" for predicting their dynamics, including reptation, primitive path fluctuations, and constraint release. Then, modern molecular dynamics simulations are used to explore the limitations and possible improvements to this model. If time permits, a discussion of dynamics in semi-dilute solution and the "blob" theory will follow.
