3) Application of Nuclear Physics in Material Science and Material Analysis

Ion beam analysis techniques, like Nuclear Reaction Resonance Analysis (NRRA) or Rutherford Backscattering (RBS), have a growing interest in material science or solid state physics. These techniques provide an extremely sensitive and very often non-destructible tool to study the characteristics of solid state samples important in other research fields or applications. Moreover, a careful target analysis is an important part of nearly all nuclear physics experiments including low-energy nuclear astrophysics. Different methods will be presented and their advantages and disadvantages discussed.
