Good afternoon
Thank you all for taking the time to read this email. I am reaching out to discuss the possibility of hosting GIREP in 2027 in Scotland.
This past GIREP, myself, Iain Moore and Laura Gray from Strathclyde, and Rosaria Lena from Glasgow discussed the possibility of hosting GIREP in the UK. In discussing the matter with Eilish McLoughlin (president of GIREP), Rachel Hartley of IoP, and others at the conference, there is a belief that it is long past time for the UK to host GIREP (the last time was in 2009). In discussing this with the other UK folks present at the conference as well as the aforementioned Scottish Uni folks, there is strength in a bid from SUPA. Rather than any single university being the host, SUPA should be the “host” of GIREP. This would allow us to demonstrate the collective nature of PER here in Scotland as well as showcase how the UK is building its PER community.
The two cities that make the most sense to host such a conference in Scotland are Edinburgh and Glasgow. Bids for GIREP are due in 2-3 months. I have received an estimated quote for roughly how much it will cost to run the conference as well as quotes for on-site accommodation. Iain has received quotes for hosting at Strathclyde. A decision on a site should be made soon so that there is sufficient time to prepare a single bid.
I would like to call a meeting for SUPA members to decide on whether they wish to host GIREP in 2027, and if so, to discuss and perhaps decide on which site should be the host location. I recognise that this is the summer and people take leave, but a decision must be made soon. I propose a meeting for next week or the week after. Here is a link to a survey to decide when. Please fill out both (each corresponds to a particular week).

These will be open until the end of the day on Friday. Please feel free to reach out for questions or comments.
