Prof. Derryck Reid, FRSE (Heriot-Watt University)

Prof. Ifor Samuel, FRSE (University of St Andrews)

Prof. Roy Taylor, FRS, FREng (Imperial College London)

Prof. Sibbett was a pioneer of research on ultrashort pulse laser science and technology. His work spanned many areas in the generation, measurement, and application of ultrafast spectroscopy.   He was also a pioneer of interdisciplinary research at St Andrews, building strong links with Ninewells Hospital and leading to the development of biophotonics as a major research strength for the University.  In 2001, he was appointed to chair the Scottish Science Advisory Committee, making him Scotland’s first ever Chief Adviser on Science, by what was then the Scottish Executive.  The symposium will bring together those involved in these different aspects of Prof. Sibbett's career to reflect on the impact his work has had and to give a forward-looking perspective to future scientific and technological developments.   We would welcome attendance from anyone who would like to celebrate his legacy.

The symposium will take place on Wednesday the 22nd October at the J F Allen building, North Haugh, St Andrews, KY16 9SS.  Refreshments will be available from 10:15, with the event starting at 10:45, and ending with a reception until 18:20.
